I feel that I underestimated how well I though this projects outcome was going to be, as I really exceeded my comfort zone and chose a difficult theme to base my creations of Vans shoes around. I believe my designs went perfectly and they fit the current society’s style as I received a lot of feedback from the public after posting some on social media for non-bias opinions:
I feel as though when I involved family, friends and my peers opinions and suggestions, it really encouraged me to try new things and test my work ability whilst going out of my comfort zone for the purpose of progression and investigation In new possible talents of art I have. I am more than pleased with my outcomes, especially my final favourite design that was inspired by Lil Peep. This is simply because I can relate to his style and genre of music and his music has become extremely popular in today’s society, so I used that information to make decisions on what other artists I could use etc. Overall, from year 1 of graphic design, this assignment has been by far my favourite as vans shoes and being able to choose themes of design is something I am extremely passionate about and receiving that sense of individuality makes me feel successful. I am also an individual who appreciates fashion, particularly the alternative style which does include skateboarding fashion trends, (as you can clearly tell from my FMP I came up with last year) which influenced majorly on the styling of these Vans shoes. Furthermore, if I was to do this entire project again, I would test out my concepts onto actual shoes using acrylic paint, marker pens, clay etc just to gain experience and for experimentation as I feel that this would be something I would really enjoy doing and it would have a professional outcome to show Universities and job vacancies what I am capable of creating when I put my creative mind to it.
The thing that I didn’t appreciate about this assignment was the little time we were given for this as I feel I could’ve produced a load of stronger work if given that extra week or so. I got too invested into this and when the deadline cropped up I was devastated! However, in my spare time I would love nothing more than to continue down this path and collect concepts based on Vans shoes.
